Dutch online gaming continues rapid growth
Wednesday, 15 February 2012 13:42
Research conducted by Dutch game developer Spil Games indicates that 4 million Dutch people, roughly a quarter of the population of the Netherlands, actively participate in online gaming. Other countries have more gamers in total. Brazil, for example, has 16 million online gamers but that equates to only 8.2 per cent of the population. The amount of time spent online gaming in the Netherlands is also high at 123 minutes per month, second only to Germany, with 151 minutes. December 2011 was a milestone month for Spil Games; its three global social-gaming platforms attracted 170 million unique visitors - a leap of around 40 million, compared to December 2010, and almost double the previous year’s growth. “Deciding to embrace social features so pro-actively is clearly paying off for us - we’re seeing a huge leap in user engagement, unique visits, time spent on site and, crucially, in revenues generated by sales of virtual items,” stated Spil Games CEO, Peter Driessen. Holland remains attractive for foreign investment
Wednesday, 15 February 2012 13:40
More than 4,300 jobs, 1.47 billion Euros in investment pledges, and 41 international headquarters, especially in the city of Amsterdam. That is the result of the work by the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) in 2011. In total, the NFIA brought 193 foreign investment projects to the Netherlands in 2011.
Minister for Foreign Trade & Agriculture, HenkBleker, is pleased with these foreign investments: "It shows that the Netherlands still has a favourable investment climate and is an attractive stepping stone into Europe, its language and educational skills, as well as its fiscal climate. And foreign investors provide direct jobs.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation targets large and small companies in the Dutch economy's priority sectors. In addition to such sectors as Agrifood, Water, Energy, High Tech and Chemicals, attracting and maintaining international headquarter activities is an important priority for this ministry. Around 21% of the 193 projects relate to international headquarters projects, consisting of 30 new operations, nine expansions and two retentions. Headquarters provide approximately 1,200 jobs. Most of these projects originate from Asia and North America. A number of examples of new headquarters in the Netherlands include Kuwait Petroleum (The Hague), New Zealand dairy cooperative Fonterra (Amsterdam), contact lens manufacturer Menicon, from Japan (Emmen), and American guitar producer Taylor Guitars (Amsterdam).

Prime minister welcomes eurozone deal
Friday, 09 December 2011 10:35
Prime minister Mark Rutte on Friday said he welcomed progress made on agreeing how to tackle the eurozone crisis after a day of informal talks.
While efforts to get all 27 states to agree a common policy failed, the 17 eurozone states are to work on a separate pact which other EU member states can sign up to. Britain and Hungary will not take part.
Britain's demand for a number of opt-outs in terms of financial services are unacceptable, Rutte is quoted as saying. 'That would give London an different competitive position to Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Paris and Frankfurt,' he said.
The BBC said a decision to press ahead without changing EU treaties does have benefits for the eurozone because it is likely to be less time-consuming.

Thursday, 03 November 2011 09:43
The decision by Greece to hold a referendum on a EU debt rescue package is an ‘extremely unfortunate development’, prime minister Mark Rutte told parliament on Tuesday evening.

Greece scenarios not made public, and don't mention Greece

Alpha-Eurobank will be a profitable merger
Wednesday, 31 August 2011 14:42

The new Alpha-Eurobank format will be profitable, with estimated annual revenue of 3 billion euros, as indicated itoprotothema.gr by the CEO of the new bank Nikolaos Nanopoulos and one of the general managers, Yorgos Aronis.
They note that Greek banks are not like the Irish ones and in the end will not have the high forecast received by the Allied Irish Banks and the Bank of Ireland.
Specifically, as Nanopoulos mentions, the total revenue of the Irish was 3,9 billion euros against an annual revenue of 3 billion estimated by the Goldman Sachs consultants of the new company.
With this figure in annual revenue and moving to a capital strengthening of 2,1 billion euros, the new bank will have a capital stock large enough to counter both the losses from bonds and the insecurities.
Regarding the 2 billion, it should be noted that Qatar will get back 150 million euros from the 500-million eurobond with interest, i.e. 10% per annum, while 350 million will be collected in shares.
As announced yesterday on the results of the two banks, the impact from the losses of bonds on Alpha Bank was 539 million euros and 664 million on Eurobank. Regarding the subprime loans, Aronis says that predictions for the Irish were at 2 to 3% per year, while the revenue in Greece before the estimations was at 3 billion euros. As he adds, the estimations for Greece will be 2,5% of the total 2 or 3% of Ireland.
Of course, all of the above will happen if the climate in Greece improves in the near future and the economy gets a reboot. Otherwise, estimates will remain estimates for a long time.
Demonization of Blackrock
"The issue of Blackrock has been demonized by the press," says Nanopoulos, who notes that the impact of insecurities will be lower than the reported 15 billion euros (5,4 billion from bonds and 14 to 15 billion from subprime loans).
On the other hand, the new bank will not pay right away the 1,9 billion for preferred shares that have been received by the two banks.
The repayment will happen when the bank is able to pay and in addition, this process does not depend only on the bank but also on the authorities.
